There was a time when movies that starred God causing some holy shenanigans could humbly come and go. You got to see them, ponder over any poignant points they had to make, and go about your life as normal. Not anymore. Now you have inspirational books and chicken soup for the Evan Almighty’s soul and basically anything else they can make to cash in.
I confess I didn’t crack these books open to tell if they were genuinely trying to pass themselves off as inspirational or if they just tried to shoehorn in biblical references. Maybe I’m just being so harsh because I found them alongside other pseudo-religious books that made me feel awkward.
I like the artwork on this one, particularly the image of Jonah on the cover with his cheeks puffed out. I also find it interesting that they decide to call it a “big fish” instead of the more common whale. I get that a lot of people complain that staying alive inside of a whale is a fairy tale and all that, but is making it into a giant fish any more believable? Like, if you were betting money, would you place your odds on somebody surviving after being swallowed by a snapper or a whale?
